2. Description of the Programme

Within mental health and social care settings it is becoming increasingly recognised that clinical supervision plays a fundamental role in improving clinical outcomes, supporting practitioners and ensuring safe and efficient practice. In this Programme you will develop an advanced and critical knowledge of the theory surrounding clinical supervision and mastery of the competencies associated with clinical skills and/or case management supervision. Considerable opportunity for supervision and reflection on your supervisory practice will be afforded to enhance learning and ongoing action planning.

3. Educational Aims of the Programme

This programme aims to update you with the latest research and practice in the clinical supervision of evidence-based psychological therapies. In this programme we aim to detail the knowledge and practice of clinical supervision of evidence-based psychological therapy practice. We aim to provide you with the knowledge and competencies required to supervise practitioners in effective practice. We also aim to provide a supportive learning environment that fosters your academic and personal development.

4. Programme Structure

The PGCert Clinical Supervision of Evidence-Based Psychological Therapies programme is a nine month part-time programme of study at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 7 (as confirmed against the FHEQ). This programme is offered in a single stage.

Programme-specific Progression Rules

You must pass all the modules in the table above. The pass mark for these modules is 50% with an additional requirement to pass all individual assessments within individual modules. If you fail any modules you will not be permitted to continue with the programme and your registration as a student will be terminated with immediate effect.

WithinPsychology there is a well-equipped suite of PCs dedicated for postgraduate use, with further support provided by a dedicated IT and statistics helpdesk.

Applicants must normally have completed a recognised professional clinical training or relevant undergraduate degree. Non-standard applications will be considered where applicants can demonstrate the required academic ability alongside existing knowledge, experience and skills developed in the workplace, relevant to this programme. Candidates will need to undertake an interview and confirm appropriate registration to practice (eg Health Professions or Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration).

11. Regulation of Assessment and Academic Standards

Each academic programme in the University is subject to an agreed College assessment and marking strategy, underpinned by institution-wide assessment procedures.

The security of assessment and academic standards is further supported through the appointment of External Examiners for each programme. External Examiners have access to draft papers, course work and examination scripts. They are required to attend the Board of Examiners and to provide an annual report.
