BA (Hons 1) PhD, Australian National University

My PhD research was in the area of social and organisational psychology and uncovered a new form of prejudice towards women who are tentative, rather than assertive, in leadership roles. This new form of prejudice towards tentative female leaders is likely to be more difficult to overcome than prejudice towards assertive female leaders, becasue it is harder to see as unfair. These findings were published in The British Journal of Social Psychology, and you can also read about them in an article I wrote for The Conversation

In addition to my published research on prejudice towards women in leadership, I have published research on how to motivate community action to advance social causes and on gender bias in the judicial system. I also have ongoing research examining reactions to perpetrators and victims of sexual harassment, and mobilising men’s action in support of gender equality.

Before joining the University of Exeter in 2017, I was employed in a number of research roles in Australia, including at Melbourne Business School to examine barriers to the uptake of flexible workplace policies, and at The University of Queensland Business School to examine male CEO's involvement in programs to advance gender equality.

My research has received broad media coverage, including in The Huffington Post, The Boston Globe, Salon, New Scientist, The Canberra Times and The Sydney Morning Herald.
