Our aim is to study a new system to improve the quality of care for patients in hospitals and determine whether it is also relevant for nursing/care homes. We plan to develop and test an intervention that will focus on the ‘essentials of nursing care’ using a process called the ‘amalgamation of marginal gains’ (AMG). This Development grant will first address key uncertainties before we can progress to the full Programme Grant. This phase will involve a systematic review of essential nursing care interventions, understanding improved performance from experienced AMG practitioners through qualitative interviews, and developing and strengthening the project team.
