Profile

Janet Smithson has been at the University of Exeter since 2006. She is a Senior Lecturer on the Doctor of Clinical Psychology, Doctor of Clinical Practice, and Doctor of Clinical Research programmes in the School of Psychology (CEDAR), and on the M.Sc in Psychological Therapies. She is also a Research Fellow in the Law School.  Her research interests include: gender and discourse, life course transitions, qualitative methodology and analysis, work-life balance, online discourse and communication.

She is a co-investigator on a  3 year ESRC funded project "Mapping Paths to Family Justice" Anne Barlow, Rosemary Hunter, and Janet Smithson, School of Law, University of Exeter, and School of Law, University of Kent. 2011-2014.

She has collaborated with colleagues in the Peninsula Medical School and the University of Plymouth on a variety of research projects in health and mental health fields, in particular looking at how health services might use online methods to support different groups of service users, including young people who self harm, and older people in rural areas.

Qualifications

1989 B.A.(Hons) 2/1 in Philosophy and Psychology, University of Oxford.

1995 Ph.D.in Cognitive Science, University of Manchester.
