Overview

Barbora is a Research Fellow who joined REACH: The centre for Research in Aging and Cognitive Health in September 2017.

Barbora’s research at the University of Exeter focuses on two broad areas. The first is prevention of dementia by trying to understand how we can support people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, e.g. exercise regularly, eat healthily and engage in social and cognitive activities. The work will involve developing an intervention focusing on supporting middle aged and older individuals to make positive lifestyle choices with the aim to easily deliver the intervention within National Health Service (NHS) setting. This work is part of the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Cognitive Health project.

The second area of her research interests at the University of Exeter focuses on experiences of people living with undiagnosed dementia and their carers and what factors predict the likelihood of not receiving dementia diagnosis. This work is part of the IDEAL-2 (Improving the experience of dementia and enhancing active life: a longitudinal perspective on living well with dementia) study.

Before joining the University of Exeter, Barbora worked as a Career Development Fellow at University of Cambridge, where using different methods such as randomised controlled trial, qualitative interviews and focus groups, systematic reviews and secondary analyses of sociodemographic and psychological mediators and moderators, she tried to understand the impact of risk communication on behaviour change, well-being and clinical outcomes.
