Project Title: Emotion processing during a meditation exercise in individuals who have experienced trauma
Funding Body: University of Exeter
This research project aims to study emotion processing during a meditation exercise in individuals who have experienced psychological trauma such as a car accident. The way in which individuals process emotions after trauma may affect how they cope with the traumatic experience. Meditation techniques, as a means to help with emotion processing, have increasingly been used in psychological treatment of trauma survivors; however, individuals respond to them very differently, some find them helpful and some do not find them helpful at all, and we would like to learn more about these individual differences in emotional and bodily and brain responses to a meditation exercise. The findings will hopefully help us to understand and further develop psychological treatments for individuals who find it difficult to come to terms with psychological trauma.
