Miss Flora Hemming
Graduate Research Assistant
CEDAR
I am a passionate researcher with a Master’s degree in Psychology, specialising in child wellbeing and positive psychology. I currently work as a Research Assistant at the University of Exeter, where I support the CEDAR CREATE team in evaluating wellbeing interventions. My work focuses on enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people through evidence-based approaches.
Throughout my career, I have engaged in various projects that promote mental health and wellbeing. I've supported Ukrainian refugees through community-based support groups, collaborated with the University’s Wellbeing Service to improve their counselling and suicide prevention programs, and evaluated training for clinicians in the psychological professions, including SWP's, PWP, and systemic family therapists.
I'm eager to explore new research opportunities, particularly in the field of relationship and sex education (RSE). I am interested in understanding how formal education in schools compares to informal learning in youth clubs and hope to contribute to this field in the near future.
Beyond my current role, I have a global mindset and aspire to work abroad, focusing on research and initiatives that promote comprehensive RSE and child wellbeing. I'm also working on a book that aims to simplify psychological concepts using engaging analogies and humour, making them more accessible to a broader audience.
Outside of work, I enjoy immersing myself in different cultures, supporting youth-focused organisations, and finding innovative ways to promote mental health and wellbeing within the community. I am also a trustee for the India based charity Generate Love.
I’d love to connect with like-minded professionals interested in child wellbeing, positive psychology, and research on relationship and sex education. If you're interested in collaboration or just discussing these topics, feel free to reach out.
