Dr Maddy Greville-Harris (She/Her)
Senior Lecturer
Psychology
I am a Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter. I completed my MSc, PhD, and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Exeter. Alongside clinical work, I completed various postdoctoral, research, and academic roles at University of Southampton and Bournemouth University, before taking up my post at Exeter. I specialise in two areas; disordered eating, and surgeon wellbeing.
Disordered Eating
In my clinical work, I support individuals with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) in a Food Refusal Clinical. I deliver training and support in ARFID for parents and healthcare professionals across the UK. In, 2024, I led on developing animation resources for the ARFID Awareness UK charity delivering psychoeducation launched for Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Alongside this, my research focuses on: 1) understanding underexplored eating disorders/disordered eating styles, such as Orthorexia Nervosa and ARFID, 2) developing accessible interventions for individuals with eating disorders. I am currently a co-applicant on an NIHR funded grant developing an emotion-based intervention for individuals with binge eating disorder.
Surgeon Wellbeing
As a clinician, I also work with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and helped to co-develop the first peer support model to support surgeons following surgical adverse events ('SUPPORT'). As part of this quality improvement collaborative, we aim to design, deliver, sustain, and evaluate a peer support programme for surgeons, working with multiple hospital trusts across the UK and Republic of Ireland. I lead the evaluation of this work, and co-lead a Surgeon Wellbeing Research Team which focuses on understanding factors which impact surgeon wellbeing, as well as developing and testing interventions to help.
