SWBio DTP CASE Studentship. Part of Exeter Bee Lab, within Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour (CRAB).

Research Interests

Sophie is interested in pollination ecology and conserving pollinators in agricultural environments, and is passionate about connecting with nature. She completed her undergraduate degree in Zoology (Newnham College, Cambridge), including a project on tongue anatomical convergence in nectarivorous birds and held research assistant positions in pollinator dependence of soft fruits, maize adaptations to cold spells, and social perceptions of agricultural sustainability.

During an MRes (University of Sheffield), they studied chemical pollination ecology, specifically the effects of domestication and the pathogen-induced response on pollinator-related pollen quality traits to understand crop provision of floral rewards in agroecosystems. Sophie joined the University of Exeter for a PhD focusing on providing for wild social and solitary bees and their use of agricultural landscapes, supervised by Dr Natalie Hempel de Ibarra and Dr Sean Rands, and is a CASE student supervised by Roger English at South Devon National Landscape.
