Cognition, Behaviour, Decision-Making and Developmental Neuroscience

This research cluster examines the biological, cognitive, emotional, motivational, and social mechanisms underlying behaviour and decision-making, all of which contribute to mental health difficulties. Research in this area investigates how factors such as mood regulation, rumination, motivation, and cognitive biases influence the onset and maintenance of affective disorders. This includes studying underlying processes such as learning, memory, interaction and health in both humans and non-human animals.

Our neurodevelopmental work focuses on understanding how brain development, genetics, environmental and evolutionary factors shape mental health outcomes in children and young people. We also investigate neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism using neuroimaging, genetic, and epidemiological approaches. Across our work, we aim to identify mechanisms that can be targeted through psychological therapies.
