Mental Health Across the Lifespan and Clinical Translation
This research area focuses on understanding, preventing, and treating mental health disorders using evidence-based approaches, with strong links between basic science and clinical practice. The psychological conditions of interest include depression, bipolar, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and eating disorders. Our researchers explore the mechanisms that underpin mental health and wellbeing from childhood to older adulthood to investigate how interactions between biological, psychological, and social factors influence mental health. Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement groups are also an important part of our work, allowing for research to reflect the perspectives of those with lived experience and produce clinically meaningful research findings and outcomes.
This work aims to develop transdiagnostic treatment and prevention strategies that address core psychological processes across disorders, directly leading to innovations that improve mental health, wellbeing and quality of life for patients.
