Overview
Dr. Pia Pechtel is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellow and a registered clinical psychologist. Her research focusses on the intersection of developmental neuroscience and clinical psychology. Dr. Pechtel’s translational research aims to (1) identify the impact of child abuse on adolescent brain development, (2) investigate if changes in emotion and reward brain circuitries predict high-risk behaviours (e.g., self-harm) and (3) translate this information into novel treatment approaches. To achieve this, she uses electroencephalography (EEG), structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computational methods.
