I have wide-ranging interests and expertise in many areas of psychological research

Research projects

Current projects include:

• Visual/cognitive conspicuity effects in motorcyclists (in collaboration with Transport Research Laboratory)
• Effect of educational interventions for traffic offenders (with NDORS/ACPO) and college students (with Devon & Cornwall Road Safety Partnership)
• Cognitive bias modification in traffic offenders (with NDORS/ACPO/internal UoE research project)
• Effectiveness of approaches to trauma risk management and defusing procedures in blue-light service personnel (with Devon & Cornwall Police, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service)
• Undergraduate students’ perceptions of technology-enhanced learning facilities, learning styles and preference for in-class educational activities, use of online assessment, dimensions of assessment and articulation of transferable skills (internal UoE research projects)

A keen driver and experienced motorcyclist, I have also been called upon to advise a variety of local authorities and blue-light services nationally on aspects of road safety, particularly relating to car and motorcycle offender behaviour, education and training, as well as advising central and local government, and commercial advertising/marketing organisations on road safety-related campaigns.
