Alice Weaver is an Associate Research Fellow working with Professor Willem Kuyken on the PREVENT trial - 'Preventing depressive relapse in NHS settings'. The randomised controlled trial aims to establish if Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) provides an effective alternative relapse prevention approach to maintenance antidepressant medication for patients with a history of recurrent depression. For 15 months (until July 2011) she was responsible for recruitment in the Exeter and East Devon area. She is currently the Acing Trial Manager whilst Dr Rachel Hayes is on maternity leave.
Alice holds a BSc (2008) in Applied Psychology from Cardiff University
Alice previously worked with Professor David Richards on an SDO funded research project evaluating the effectiveness of a Stepped Care treatment model for high prevalence mental health problems such as depression.
Alice has also worked in the School of Education and Life Long Learning at Exeter University as a Research Assistant on a research project about social inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs in mainstream schools.
As part of her undergraduate degree Alice worked for a year as a Psychology Assistant at a Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre in Devon. She has also worked as a project worker for the mental health charity 'MIND'.
